The Madagascar
Institute presents: The Running of the Bulls
A street event (the type of thing that we might not have invented but
have arguably perfected, and without a doubt do better than anyone else
you will ever see, and if we don't yet we soon will, with this) starring
40 snorting, goring, subtly charming bulls; and you. Run in terror from
bull puppets, cart bulls, costume bulls, weird bike bulls, art car bulls,
and rolling things that might just evoke "bullness" or play on puns but
will without a doubt gore the living shit out of you if you stop to attempt
an analysis or doubt their sincerity; or just show up to cheer the brave
souls who do .
Afterwards enjoy yourself (and your new appreciation of how precious life
is, and and how quickly it can be extinguished beneath the hooves of a
hipster-hating art bull) at the Madagascar Institute, for a celebration
of all things Spain by people who have obviously never been there. The
party will include more great, fun shit than the last 6 parties you have
been to (excluding our own, of course). We have an embarrassment of riches:
There will be Hemmingway boxing, a flamenco dancing troupe, a puppet show,
castanets, opera singers, bull fights, and loads and loads of great music,
including the whoomp whoomp on a dedicated dance floor for those of you
that are into that sort of thing, the soft and sexy for the talkers and
the flirters, and a guy that plays harmonica and tap dances (no, I am
not kidding) Gypsy style, and Sxip, who has been called by many the best
performer in NYC, and much, much more. The event is free, the party is
only three bucks and worth 10 times more. Wear traditional white (for
runners), flamenco, bullfighter, or some other tweak on Spain. Be creative.
Life is more fun that way. Meet at the Carroll Street Bridge, Carroll
Street between Nevins and Bond, Gowanus, Brooklyn at 7:30 pm Saturday.
If you are late you will miss it. |
